5 Locations for Outdoor Photoshoots 2 hour's from London

Level up your shoot with our top picks...

Are you looking for the perfect location to fit your client’s brief? Or have a super specific vision for social media content? From quaint streets to ancient woodland, this article details incredible outdoor locations (and all the practicalities) with your nichest requests in mind.

Beachy Head, East Sussex

In 1 hour 50 minutes from our Clapham Common location, you can reach the towering cliffs of Beachy Head. This unique geological formation works well for digital landscape photography but, capturing these chalky cliffs on analogue would create a softer romantic feel - just like the scenes in Atonement, 2007 - which was filmed further down the coast. Go over to the Sussex Film Office website to apply for a photography permit.

Puzzlewood Forest, Forest of Dean

If you are searching to shoot somewhere with an mystical and ethereal feel, Puzzlewood in Gloucestershire is the perfect location. Its gnarled trunks and twisting branches have featured in Star Wars, Doctor Who and Our Planet - and next, you. These enchanting surroundings offer endless opportunities for creativity. While personal photography i.e. for social media is completely allowed, commercial, photo shoots, product placement and filming will need written permission. Despite Puzzlewood appearing to be millions of miles away, it is only a few hours away from our Heathrow location on the M4.

Devil's Dyke, South Downs

Devil’s Dyke is a 100 metre deep V-shaped valley which makes for a dramatic and rugged backdrop. As the longest, deepest and widest dry valley in the UK you can rest assured it is a great location to set the scene for an outdoor/active wear shoot. The valley looks distinctly striking when enveloped in low-lying mist, making it a great location all year round. Hop onto the M25 from our Canary Wharf car hire location and you will be there in an hour and a half.

Rye, East Sussex

Also located in Sussex - this charming and historic location near the coast is one of the most well-preserved mediaeval towns in England. Its cobbled streets, tea houses and castle make for the perfect day or weekend trip to create travel/food content within the UK. Mermaid Street is rightly well known to be a picturesque spot but you could climb St. Mary’s Parish Church bell tower to get a bird's eye view of the town. Drive from our London Bridge car hire location to Rye in just under 2 hours - enjoy lunch at ‘The Fig’, followed by a farm-to-plate dinner at ‘The Hoof’ and stay at the Georgian hotel called ‘The George'.

Ashdown Forest, Sussex

Ashdown Forest is renowned for inspiring one of the world’s most loved children’s stories - the adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh. This is no surprise given its outstanding and varied natural beauty - comprising heathland, fern and dotted with woodlands. The size and variety of natural beauty opens up shooting opportunities for a variety of moods and photography types. For example, the colours of the August heather would capture well on digital. Ashdown forest is located just 50 miles from our Stratford International car location and has 40 car parks. Simply head over to the Ashdown forest website to fill out an application to obtain a commercial filming or photography permit.

Here we share five incredible locations that make for varied photo, video and content opportunities. From the mystical location of Puzzlewood to the historic town of Rye - each location has its own distinct charm. Rent a car, unlock it through your phone and enjoy an easy journey to any of the above locations.
