Case study: Free the future generations

We spoke to a customer about what virtuo means to his son's future

Written by Adam

As part of our Made Possible by Virtuo campaign we met Alex, a London based entrepreneur who co-runs his own social media agency. Alongside juggling the highs and lows of running an agency, Alex has been tackling the responsibility of becoming a father. Parenthood has driven a dramatic shift in perceptions for Alex, viewing the world through a completely new lens compared to before.

Having a child has completely reframed Alex’s view of the world. “I have faced many challenges over the last 5 years with Spin Brands, my social agency, but nothing quite compares to the challenge of being a first-time father’, he explains “I have gone through an enormous shift in how I view the world and the world that our son will grow up in”.

One of the key areas that Alex started to notice when he focused on big cities is the amount of road infrastructure in place, focused on personal cars. “The car really doesn’t belong in the city, we have one of the best public transport systems in the world, having a car is just a waste of money and time.”

Mising piece of the puzzle

Alex sold his car in early 2020 having grown tired of the constant upkeep, bills and hassle that the car was bringing, especially the infrequency in which the car was used. Yet, when using public transport, car and ride sharing, he realised that there was no realistic option for a range of trips out of the city.

"We had been looking for an option that works for day trips, long weekends or even bigger trips"

"We had been looking for an option that works for day trips, long weekends or even bigger trips, but there was nothing that suited our needs, until Virtuo came along. Virtuo really has been the missing piece of the puzzle.”

Carrying precious cargo

One thing we pride ourselves on at Virtuo is quality and consistency of service. "We had been using Virtuo for a while, before our son came along, mainly to visit parents and weekend breaks” Alex explains, “but when we started carrying our precious cargo, i.e. our son, Virtuo was the only option for premium cars that are packed full of extras, it means we are confident our little one is in the best quality car and is therefore safe."

With Virtuo, you can add a number of extras including infant and child seats, meaning whichever little ones you are carrying, you will be ready to hit the road.

Only when we need it

“Being able to drop the car back on a Sunday after a weekend away and not have to think about it again is such a relief. I always resented my car being sat there, clogging up the streets in the week, so to only have a car when I need to helps me know that I am doing my bit.”

Did you know that personal cars currently sit idle 95% of the time? It is such an enormous waste in our cities, space that could be used to introduce more greenery into our cities. We cover the impact of personal cars in more detail here.

Takes us beyond the UK

Our vision for Virtuo is to have a service that will free you and our cities from the hassle of ever having to own a car, providing an experience that actually goes far beyond owning a car. One of the key elements of this is providing a consistent experience across the UK and our other countries.

"Whether we are travelling to Edinburgh, Nice in France or Barcelona, we know we will have the same experience with Virtuo. It means that we can look forward to a summer holiday with the little one, knowing we will avoid any painful experiences that you expect with traditional car rental companies.” We hear you Alex!

Future generations

Ensuring that future generations get to experience the outdoors as well as the city is essential for growth. The UK is full of unique places to visit, yet we often default to escaping overseas. We want to see future generations growing up appreciating the land, getting involved in nature and ensuring there is a sustainable route to remove cars from our cities.

This view of future generations is something that aligns with Alex’s vision, "we always wanted to ensure that our son gets out in nature, in the mud and everything else. Like many Londoner’s we don’t have garden space, so we need to either go to a park or to get out the city for him to enjoy that, now we can do it seamlessly."
